Australian academic and early music expert John O’Donnell presents a very generously timed recital of Georg Böhm’s keyboard works. Recent musicological research suggests that the 15-year-old Johann Sebastian Bach lived in Böhm’s house as an apprentice organist and copied out some of his master’s works. O’Donnell’s scholarly rigour is reflected not only in his playing, but in the interesting, detailed booklet essay. As usual, Melba’s stylish presentation helps to beckon potential listeners.
