Another bold enterprise from Melbourne’s Melba Recordings, this disc offers four compositions, three world premieres on CD, from living Australian composers Ross Edwards, Paul Stanhope, Matthew Hindson and Nicolas Buc. Edwards’s three-movement Piano Trio is the program standout.
The Benaud Trio’s contribution to the chamber music œuvre will not threaten any Top 10 lists, but it and Melba deserve loud commendation for giving classical aficionados the chance to hear contemporary Antipodean compositions few, if any, other recording entities would embrace.
