The Chopin and Rachmaninov cello sonatas are no strangers to pairing on CDs. They both represent the extremely rare but highly successful foray into the realm of chamber music by two composers who are primarily known as writers for the piano. Arriving in rather stunning packaging, this album features cellists Pei-Jee Ng and Pei-Sian Ng playing Chopin and Rachmaninov, respectively, with pianist David Tong . Pei-Jee's performance of Chopin is technically solid and the interaction between cello and piano is fluid … the highlight of the album actually comes at the very end with the world-premiere performance of Phoenix Story by Elena Kats-Chernin.
