Guillaume Tourniaire and Orchestra Victoria present extracts from the operas Henry VIII, Ascanio, Etienne Marcel et Les Barbares. These four operas were composed between 1879 and 1890; Etienne Marcel in 1879, Henry VIII in 1883, Proserpine in 1887 and Ascanio in 1890.

For this recording, the most recent from the Melba label, the French conductor Guillaume Tourniaire, music director of Prague Opera, conducts Orchestra Victoria, restoring ballet music from the French Belle Époque.

This ballet recording, apart from being a world-premiere of these extracts from four unknown operas by Camille Saint-Saëns, is presented in a superb edition.

Brilliant young French conductor Guillaume Tourniaire is presently experiencing a meteoric rise on the international conducting scene. Born in Provence, Guillaume Tourniaire studied piano and conducting at the Geneva Conservatoire. During this study he was awarded first prize in the International Gabriel Fauré piano competition.
