The ophicleide is one of the rarest brass instruments in the world. This instrument is often referred to as the predecessor of the euphonium, and certainly has had an impact on the development of the euphonium. The instrument is expertly handled by Nick Byrne who currently serves as 2nd Trombone with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in Australia, and is one of the leading exponents of the ophicleide today.
This disc is full of great pieces: some that euphonium players will know, and others that you might be hearing for the first time! This disc is amazing, and it gets the highest recommendation from Just For Brass.
