The Australian Youth Orchestra (AYO) is an institution for young musicians. It regularly organises activities to encourage and further the talent of young people.

Begun as a camp for musical children, it has developed into an organisation that runs a youth music camp as an annual event. Moreover, masterclasses are given and the orchestra gives concerts to the most distant parts of the country.

A CD of the orchestra has now come on the market, featuring a live version of the tenth symphony of Dmitri Shostakovich. As you listen to this impressive symphony, you forget that it is a youth orchestra playing. Under the guidance of conductor Alexander Anissimov the young musicians give the music its all. This is no small task, and it is certainly not easy to get that across on a live CD.

This recording promises to give us the kind of concert the orchestra will be giving us this summer in the Netherlands!
